ECOC, Newburyport Birders & Brookline Bird Club Walks


Sunday, May 4

Manchester Early Migrant Walk. Evening.
This trip will be about 3 hours long and will visit two sites, with moderate walking on forest trails. The terrain may be uneven, with possible muddy areas. We will witness the evening flight of herons and egrets as they go to roost for the evening on Kettle Island. Meeting Place: School Street at the Manchester/Essex Conservation Trust Property. This is just north of Exit 15 (Route 128) on School Street heading toward Essex. 5:00 p.m.

Eastern Point, Gloucester on foot. Morning.
We will take an easy but long (4 hour) walk on the roads and grassy footpaths of this traditional warbler hot-spot. Meeting Place: Parking lot at the small stone church on Farrington Road, Gloucester. This is just past Niles Beach parking area and the entrance to Eastern Point. 6:45 a.m.

Meeting location: Parker River National Wildlife Refuge ~ Parking Lot #1

Register by calling the PRNWR Headquarters at 978-465-5753.
Please register early – limited enrollment.

Accompany Sue McGrath, for a guided bird walk exploring the Refuge's varied habitats. We'll see many species of birds and enjoy the hues of the saltmarsh. Interpretive materials are provided. All skill levels are welcome including children age 8 and older accompanied by an adult. Wear sturdy, walking shoes.

Tuesday, June 3

Crane Beach, Ipswich. Evening.
This two mile walk in the sand is aimed at nesting Piping Plovers and Least Terns, as well as evening singers, including Whip-poor-wills. Be prepared for mosquitoes at sunset. Co-sponsored by the Essex County Ornithological Club. Meeting Place: Outside the gate at the Crane Beach parking lot at the end of Argilla Road. 6:15 p.m.
