BIRDERS' EXCHANGE
Birders' Exchange was founded in 1990 by the Manomet Center for Conservation Science
(MCCS).
In 1996, MCCS (in Manomet, MA) partnered with the American Birding Association (ABA) to run the program, and a productive partnership blossomed, building on the extensive birder network of ABA and the conservation links with Latin America at MCCS. Since late February 2002, the ABA has run the program in its entirety and has made clear that it will continue to develop and expand the program, based on the vision set forth by the MCCS.
Since its inception, Birders' Exchange has served more than 500 groups in 30 countries and territories. In 2003 alone, Birders' Exchange supplied equipment to dozens of programs in: Antigua, Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, EI Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The equipment must be in good working order. For example, the binoculars must be in proper alignment, the focus wheel in operation, and the glass without flaws.
