ECOC / Ipswich River Woodcock Walk

March 27, 2018

The ECOC Woodcock Walk Clubhouse Event was held in and around the Barn at Ipswich River Sanctuary on Tuesday March 27th.

Carol Decker gave a wonderful introduction to the woodcock and its behavior. Thank you so much Carol and Ava. We then we went outside and watched and listened. It was rather quiet with only 1 woodcock calling.

Barred Owls calling and flyovers stole the show….. birding always surprises you.

Of course I encourage you to go back there any evening at dusk to try to see the show. The woodcock will be displaying all the way into June.

See you down the trail (or at least on Friday April 6th at the PEM for our next talk).

Cheers
Dave Brewster

While this was advertised as a woodcock watch, the group had the opportunity to observed and hear many other dusk sounds in spring. The flyby’s and the Barred owl calls were such fun! Still a fair snowcover and mud on trails, so that the group stayed near the parking area and fields.
